Pastiche & Homage Daft Punk- Class Notes

Postmodernism is a contradiction- "nothing is real.."

Daft Punk form bricolage of ideas:

  • The ability to transform something old into something new
  • High example of postmodernism- very time consuming
  • Richly textured music- based on disco
  • As they released each single the narrative continues- based on Albator 84
  • Can be really well made- clever & intelligent
In 2001 Daft Punk released 'Discovery', the album relied heavily on sampling and saw a move towards disco inspired house music. The album was to do with their childhood and memories. 'It's less of a tribute to the music from 1975-1985.'

"This album takes a playful, fun and colourful look at music, it's about the ideas of looking at something with an open mind and not asking too many questions."
